If you’re a black sheep, you get cold feet, or you think love is a highway, then you’re probably thinking metaphorically. It states outright that one thing is another thing. You know you’ve spotted one when you see the words like or as in a comparison. (e.g., as brave as a lion, crazy like a fox ).Ī metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true but helps explain an idea or make a comparison. It is used to make a description more emphatic or vivid.
