Jesus’ ‘I am’ sayings, such as, ‘I am the Good Shepherd’, ‘I am the bread of life’, and ‘I am the door’ are a series of metaphors.įor you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. If you’re a black sheep, you get cold feet, or you think love is a highway, then you’re probably thinking metaphorically. It states outright that one thing is another thing. You know you’ve spotted one when you see the words like or as in a comparison. (e.g., as brave as a lion, crazy like a fox ).Ī metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true but helps explain an idea or make a comparison. It is used to make a description more emphatic or vivid. What is a Simile?
